Fedora 31 has been just released today on Oct 29, 2019. The newest version of the Fedora family brings lots of changes. It is the first version to drop the support for 32-bit kernels. It now contains only some basic 32-bit libraries and dependencies required for compatibility. Another major change is the drop of python2 which also puts more focus on the future.

The long time awaited Mikrotik RouterOS v7.0 appears to be getting closer. A second beta version has just been released. This is still an early beta version so we publish it only for testing purposes.

CentOS comes with firewalld by default. It allows you to manage your firewall rules based on zones. This short tutorial will cover only the basic setup with the default ‘public’ zone and how to allow ports in it.

CentOS 8 is here. And it brings a few changes from the Fedora/RHEL world. Like the new default package manager ‘dnf’. Although it is quite familiar for Fedora users, ‘dnf’ comes to kind of replace the well known ‘yum’ in the CentOS8 world.

The longly anticipated new version of CentOS – 8.0 is here. The release is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.0, includes the Linux kernel 4.18 and brings a plenty of new features and improvements.

OpenSSH server comes with a pretty neat builtin SFTP subsystem. It allows you to use SFTP out of the box but it also provides some more advanced features. One commonly used feature is restrict an SFTP user to access only one directory and not see the entire server filesystem, or also known as chrooting (from changing the root of the filesystem tree).

SSHFS allows you to mount a remote filesystem over a simple SFTP connection. It is quite useful as most SSH servers support it out of the box, so you don’t really need any server-side configuration. All you need is SFTP access to the remote location.

The new version of one of the most popular Linux distributions – Debian 10 is now available on CloudBalkan Cloud Servers. All tests of the new version image went fine and Debian 10 is now publicly available for your servers and cloud machines.
